The annual Special Olympics Washington Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to support Special Olympics athletes by Freezin’ for a Reason.
This year we have multiple ways for you to raise funds and awareness for Washington’s Special Olympics athletes in a friendly East vs West statewide competition!
Make a giant splash to celebrate the return of the in-person polar plunge! Join us for this optional event at the Eastern WA or Western WA locations on February 26.
Special Olympics Washington’s main goal is to bring individuals together in a safe manner. To provide a safe and healthy environment for our plungers, each in-person participant or team will be given a time slot in which to arrive and plunge at their respective location. Time slots and more details will be emailed to all participants at a later date.
Raise funds for the East vs. West competition by inviting your friends, family, and colleagues to “send a splash” and see you get drenched with a water balloon!
Registration is open! Sign up individually or as a team.
Once registered, you can begin using your personal fundraising page to gather donations from friends, family, and colleagues. To help with your fundraising efforts, we’ll send you an official plunge kit featuring water balloons and a pop pin. All the funds you raise will count towards the East vs West competition totals!
Each time someone donates to your online fundraising page, record a short Polar Pop video thanking them before getting splashed with a water balloon. How many balloon pops can you endure to support Special Olympics Washington athletes and add to the fundraising total for your side of the state?

Celebrate the end of a spirited East vs West competition by joining us for the optional
in-person Polar Plunge!
Everyone deserves a chance at a happy and purposeful life.
Yet children and adults with intellectual disabilities face doubt, barriers, and low expectations. For many, Special Olympics is the only place where they find an opportunity to participate in their communities, develop belief in themselves, and feel like champions. Each day we empower athletes to shatter stereotypes and exceed their personal bests on and off the playing field. But for every one of the inspiring 19,500 Special Olympics Washington athletes there are 13 more individuals with intellectual disabilities waiting for their chance to compete.
Upload your best Polar Pop videos here for a chance to win one of our Polar Plunge 2022 contests.
All contest winners will receive a Polar Plunge Merch Bundle from Special Olympics Washington!
Winner will receive an XBOX ONE S, 1 controller, and 3 months Xbox Live Gold with Game Pass! Any costumes worn in Polar Pop videos or at in-person Polar Plunge events are eligible to win.
The Polar Plunge is a fundraising event in support of more than 19,500 Special Olympics Washington participants. In 2022, the in-person Polar Plunge is back! This year, we’re facing off in a friendly East vs. West competition to see which side of the state can raise the most funds. Can’t make it to the in-person plunge? No problem! To gear up for the main event, we’re introducing a new activity called The Polar Pop which you can participate in from home or wherever your creativity takes you. To get involved, just Sign Up, Pop & Post!
After more than a year of at-home training and fitness, we are excited to bring athletes across the state safely back to playing fields and courts for in-person practices and competitions. By joining us for the Polar Plunge, you’ll be supporting more than 19,500 Special Olympics participants, as well as help us reach even more individuals with intellectual disabilities across the state. The funds you raise through the Polar Plunge will change lives through the power of sports.
YES! We will be hosting two in-person plunge events on Saturday, February 26: one in Seattle and the other in Richland. We realize we’re still in the middle of a pandemic and safety is our highest priority, so please note that the in-person events are subject to change or cancelation.
