Why We Plunge
With your support, Polar Plunge Washington 2026 will directly power Special Olympics Washington’s year-round sports, health, and leadership programs for 14,000+ children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Every dollar raised helps athletes build confidence, break barriers, and reach new personal bests—on and off the playing field.
By plunging—or donating—you’re fueling the next chapter of impact for thousands of athletes across Washington. As we grow participation and deepen community support in 2026, your involvement ensures more athletes have access to inclusive opportunities, meaningful friendships, and life-changing experiences.
Once you register, you’ll receive your own fundraising page. Share your link via email, text, or social media to rally support and show your community that you’re ready to be bold and get cold! Every share brings us closer to our 2026 fundraising goals and expands what’s possible for athletes statewide.

Is there a fundraising minimum?
Yes. Each participant is asked to meet a fundraising minimum to take part in the Plunge. Run-only participants pay a flat registration fee, while Plungers and Super Plungers commit to a fundraising minimum that directly supports Special Olympics Washington athletes.
I registered as an individual, but now I want to join a team. What do I do?
Teams make it more fun! Email us at plunge@sowa.org, and we’ll help you make the switch.
I registered to participate but changed my mind. Can I get a refund?
We’re sorry you can’t join us! Please note that registration fees and donations are non-refundable, but your contribution will still have a meaningful impact.
Are donations tax-deductible?
Absolutely! Donations are tax-deductible, though registration fees are not. Special Olympics Washington is a 501(c)3 organization, so give with confidence!
I forgot my password!
No worries! We’ve got your back. Just email plunge@sowa.org, and we’ll help you get back on track.
How do I turn in cash or checks?
You can mail any donations to Special Olympics Washington – Polar Plunge 2815 2nd Ave #370 Seattle, WA 98121. Don’t forget to add your name so we know who to credit it to.
Can I do both the 5K and the Plunge?
Yes! Many participants choose to run, plunge, or take on both challenges. It’s the best way to experience the full day of Polar Plunge excitement.
Can I just do the Polar Plunge 5K?
Yes! You can choose to only participate in the 5K Run & Walk if you’d prefer not to take the plunge.
What is the Seattle Super Plunge?
The Seattle Super Plunge is an extreme version of the Polar Plunge where participants take the icy plunge once every hour for 24 hours straight. It’s designed for our most dedicated fundraisers and thrill-seekers, raising critical funds for Special Olympics Washington while showcasing their commitment in a big way.
What is the Polar Plunge 5K Run & Walk?
The Polar Plunge 5K is a family-friendly run/walk that kicks off the day’s festivities. Whether you’re racing for time or strolling with friends, it’s a fun way to support Special Olympics Washington before cheering on (or joining) the Plunge.
